To work as a social worker in the UK you will need: 

  • A social work degree, i.e. Bachelor or Masters in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Two Professional References. Two original references from previous employers or those with professional experience of your social work skills.
  • CV / Resume. An up-to-date CV listing your educational and employment history to the current day.
  • Verification of Qualification and Registration. If qualified internationally - see www.gscc.org.uk/care_intlworkers.htm
  • Official Medical Clearance. You will need a letter from your GP, stating you are fit and able to work as a qualified social worker, have no contagious illnesses, your immunisations are up-to-date and you have tested negative on a TB skin test. 
  • Official National Police Clearance.  You will need a police check from your country of residence stating you have no criminal record, no convictions pending and no child related offences.   
  • Valid Passport. A current passport from your country of origin with at least 6 months until the expiry date.
  • Valid work permit or visa.You must apply and receive permission to work in the UK before leaving your country of origin. (All Commonwealth citizens should contact the British High Commission located in your capital city).

  • Working Holiday Maker Visa
  • Ancestry
  • Right of Abode
  • Dual Citizenship (country of residence and a European Union country).
  • Spouse of a British passport holder
  • If you require work permit sponsorship, you will first need to travel to the UK and meet prospective employers. Then you must return to your home country and wait for work permit approval.
